Part-time Fitness Instructor

Amazing opportunity to make an impact in a part-time role at our wonderful senior living community!

The Wellness Trainer/Fitness instructor instructs and motivates individuals or groups primarily in exercise activities.  The position also includes developing and implementing programs and recreational activities to address all the dimensions of wellness.

This position works directly with the Regional Wellness Coordinator to develop the curriculum and lesson plans necessary to ensure classes, one-on-one trainings, and other programming are delivered to address the wellness objectives of the participants.

Additional responsibilities include: execution of base line fitness testing, the ability to work independently and with a team, ensuring program and services are operated in accordance to policies and procedure as well as State and local regulations, and basic knowledge of fitness equipment.

 

Salary: $21.05 - $24.66+ / hour Based on Experience

SITES SUPPORTED AND SCHEDULE:  Dicksoh Hollow, 10 hours per week

REPORTING STRUCTURE: This position reports to the Regional Wellness Coordinator. This position collaborates with Site Leaders and staff at designated work sites.

 

Some of the responsibilities of the Fitness Instructor include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct professional classes in balance, strengthening, flexibility, endurance and additional topics which may be of benefit to the participants of the Fitness Center.
  • In cooperation with the Fitness Director, develop and implement a curriculum and schedule of classes that will address the needs of the participants of the Fitness Center and provide the variety and frequency of classes to reach a wide spectrum of participants based upon regulations and established best practices.
  • Administer standardized assessments in a standard manner.
  • Educate and communicate to residents and caregivers on interventions and programs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean fitness area and equipment.
  • Monitor vital signs: blood pressure, pulse, respiration and oxygen saturation when applicable during fitness activities.
  • Complete accurate, legible and timely documentation which supports the services provided.
  • Accurately capture and bill for services provided when applicable, according to company policies and procedures.
  • Manages schedule to meet the needs of the resident. Flexible and adaptable to changes.

Responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities of the Fitness Instructor include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide lifeguard services on the pool deck to monitor the utilization of the pool, and ensure the safety of all participants (sites with aquatic facilities only).
  • Administer standardized assessments in a uniform manner.
  • Educate and communicate to residents and caregivers on interventions and programs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean fitness area and equipment.
  • Monitor vital signs: blood pressure, pulse, respiration and oxygen saturation when applicable during fitness activities.
  • Complete accurate, legible and timely documentation which supports the services provided.
  • Accurately capture and bill for services provided when applicable, according to company policies and procedures.
  • Manages schedule to meet the needs of the resident. Flexible and adaptable to changes in the department/organization.

 

Qualifications

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.  
  2. Bachelors degree preferred in related field or equivalent experience in fitness industry. 
  3. Current Red Cross certification in CPR and First Aide.
  4. Lifeguard certification specific to the type of pool at assigned community or willingness to become certified within 90 days of start date
  5. Certification from a Nationally Accredited organization for personal training and group fitness  such as:  American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NASCA) and / or  National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). 
  6. Must have the ability to relate professionally positively, and work cooperatively with residents, guests, families and employees at all levels. 
  7. Able and willing to travel to other PHS communities. 
  8. Demonstrated compatibility with PHS's mission and operating philosophies.
  9. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.
