Career Specialist

Presbyterian Homes & Services Home Office in Roseville, MN is seeking a Career Specialist for our team. 

 

The New Americans in Long- Term Care (NALTC) Career Specialist will provide comprehensive career guidance and direct support to participants of the New Americans in LTC Program, helping them integrate in their long-term care careers and achieve their career goals at Presbyterian Homes and Services. This role will be responsible for actively carrying out activities necessary to put the new program into practice, including deploying a uniquely designed onboarding curriculum and training, positioning resources, career pathways mapping assistance, evaluating the program for continuous improvement and sustainability and supporting successful completion of deliverables.

This is a full-time, temporary grant-funded position anticipated to sunset in July 2026 and may be extended based on outcomes and/or additional funding.

REPORTING STRUCTURE
The New Americans in Long- Term Care Career Specialist reports directly to the New Americans in Long-Term Care Program Manager.

This role will be responsible for actively carrying out activities necessary to put the new program into practice, including deploying a uniquely designed onboarding curriculum and training, positioning resources, career pathways mapping assistance, evaluating the program for continuous improvement and sustainability, and supporting successful completion of deliverables.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Attracting New Americans in LTC careers by participating in job fairs, outreach efforts, cultural events and host information sessions. Deploy targeted, culturally relevant recruitment and promotional materials to attract new Americans to LTC careers.
• Work collaboratively within the Human Resource Function and with interdisciplinary leaders across the organization to ensure NALTC participants emerge from onboarding, training and program assistance elements with an understanding of PHS culture, as well as, sets the new employee up for success to serve in their role.
• Deploy customized onboarding and tailored training to ensure NALTC participants feel welcome and prepared in their new positions, in turn, giving them the confidence and resources to make an impact within the organization and ultimately allowing PHS to continue to carry out its mission.
  • Offer language support services to assist participants in effectively communicating with residents, families and colleagues, including administering language proficiency testing tool and process to assess English proficiency, providing access to English learning opportunities to help participants improve their language skills and deploy language-specific job aids.
  • Support deployment of cultural competency training to participants entering LTC careers
  • Support deployment of cultural competency training to employees across PHS to ensure they understand, respect cultural backgrounds, beliefs and values of NALTC participants
  • Deploy other culturally relevant training materials as assigned
  • In partnership with PHS Talent Team support development of mentorship programs within the scope of the NALTC program, including identification of mentors and communication of program expectations and guidelines
• Gather feedback from participants of the program to evaluate the effectiveness of onboarding curriculum and training, including mentorship program.
• Designate and deploy all assistance program elements (vouchers for housing, transportation and childcare, and education assistance).
• Support formation of affinity groups to foster camaraderie and sense of belonging, including organizing special events and gathering stories to share with the broader PHS community.
• Gather feedback from participants of the program to evaluate the effectiveness of all program assistance elements.
• In collaboration with the PHS Talent Team and department leaders throughout the organization support development of culturally relevant pathways for career development.
• Support deployment of Job Shadowing opportunities, including coordination of job shadowing experience for participants and communication of policies/ procedures/ expectations to prepare for and facilitate job shadowing.
• Offer opportunities for skill development, additional training or support services according to NALTC program design.
• Collaborate with PHS education assistance to facilitate progression in identified career pathways for NALTC program participants.
• Support program participants in coordination of engagement in training programs, as needed
  Coordinate with NALTC program participants and training partners, as needed
• In partnership with PHS Talent Team support mentorship opportunities for NALTC program participants, including identifying mentors and communication of program expectations and guidelines
• Gather feedback from participants of the program to evaluate the effectiveness of career pathways mapping assistance.
• Track feedback and metrics to drive implementation, build improvements, and provide ongoing adjustments to communications/process.
• Track program participation from recruitment to career progression and identify any barriers or challenges to their acclimation and progression along career pathways.
• Track expenses per participant, as well as program overhead expenses.
• Work closely with the Program Manager, HR Team and other cross functional teams to continuously improve the recruitment, onboarding curriculum and training and all program assistance elements of the NALTC Program. Keep the NALTC program participant viewpoint and experience at the forefront of decision making and changes to the program.
• Utilize measurement tools and feedback mechanisms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in career counseling, human resources, social work, or a related field.
• Two (2) years’ experience in career counseling, workforce development, or a related field. Experience working with immigrants and refugees is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in a second language preferred. Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
• Strong cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust across diverse communities. Sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to promoting Biblical vision of diversity
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and deadlines simultaneously and to identify and resolve exceptions and to interpret data.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common computer programs
• Travel will be required but expected to be less than 10-15% of the time.
• Demonstrated compatibility with PHS's mission and operating philosophies.
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.

The estimated starting pay range for this role is 23.88-29.84 per hour. This good faith estimate is based upon PHS’s typical starting pay range for this role. Actual pay range depends on many factors including each individual employee’s qualifications and market conditions and is subject to change.

Full-time benefits-eligible employment begins at a minimum of 30 hours per week:
